Welcome back! If you live in the tundra known as Minnesota like we do you'll understand that today it was -6 and windy and that means spending a LOT of time simply surviving during the winter. And you know what makes these "survival" months bearable? Indoor retreats.
Today I want to show you OUR indoor retreat. The place that gets the lions share of the winter sunshine and the place that warms our hearts (and bodies thanks to not one, not two, but three blankets on the bed...)
I'm about to show you what our bedroom *looked* like when we moved in. And as a heads up if wallpaper (or the thought of removing wallpaper) makes you nauseous you may consider averting your eyes...

BEFORE / WHEN WE MOVED IN
So! As you can see the bedroom had not one, not two, but THREE faux coniferous trees, textured green wallpaper "wainscoting", what I can only assume is the worlds most cavernous bathroom, and also a crap ton of wasted space. Now one thing I should mention is that these photos are not actually mine, these are from the reality listing. Literally the hour we moved in we also put our family to work stripping wallpaper from this room and THAT was the moment I'm certain they all swore they would never help us move again... #Stillworthit #Weloveyou
AFTER / CURRENT
TINY bit better, huh? Firstly, the bathroom is about 95% better with white cabinets, a new coat of paint, and a shabby chic painted green mirror. Believe it or not the only thing we changed was the flooring ($20 worth of peel and stick vinyl tile and worth every penny) and the cabinet hardware and it got a whole new outlook on life. We rearranged and put the bed on the biggest wall (because that just makes too much sense) and were able to add a small sitting area next to the book shelf and make the traffic flow not be impeded by the bed *huzzah!*
Left on the master bedroom TO-DO list:
- Complete painting the last cabinet door
- Purchase or build some legit night stands (TV trays were our temp fix --- 3 years ago)
- ENJOY!
I also want to mention that that fancy pantsy headboard was a $20 DIY project that literally took me 20 minutes!!! AND if you notice it is totally 100% okay to have a banner in your perfectly adult, grown up bedroom because if you are looking at it you either:
a) woke up that morning or
b) didn't kill anyone at work
and those are both things to celebrate on the daily! ;)
WHERE IT CAME FROM: Book case // hand-us-down from IKEA - Gray chairs // Target - All photo frames // TJ Maxx - Lamps // hand-us-down originally from Pier One
Let us know what you think!
